My husband and I have been trying to start a family for the last 7 years to no avail. We were referred to HFI by my OBGYN after a year of trying to conceive. After going through the initial diagnostic tests and procedures, I was diagnosed with PCOS and told that IVF would be our best chance to conceive. We were given the cost and it just was not doable at the time. Fast forward 5 years to 2018 and we were able to take out a loan for our first IVF cycle. We redid all of the tests and procedures, so everything was up to date and to make sure nothing had changed. Nothing had changed so we proceeded with our first IVF cycle, but it resulted in no viable embryos.
After regrouping, selling our house, and downsizing significantly, we were able to pay for our 2nd IVF cycle which resulted in 4 genetically healthy embryos. So, we proceeded and prepared to transfer one of the embryos. On our transfer day the first embryo that was thawed started to degenerate so there we sat discussing everything with our doctor on what we do next. We decided the best course of action was to thaw a 2nd embryo. So, a 2nd embryo was thawed and transferred. After our 2-week wait we found out we were pregnant; a milestone that seemed like it had always been so far out of our reach. We made it all the way to 6 weeks and 4 days before miscarrying. So, there we were talking with our doctor again in the exam room and decided on a path and where we needed to go from here. We monitored the hormone levels in my blood and proceeded with a D & C.
At our post op appointment, we discussed the D & C results with our doctor and our next step was to do another frozen embryo transfer. We had an idea of what the cost was going to be for the frozen embryo transfer but knew that the only thing standing in our way was how we were going to pay for it. When we received the cost information from our financial representative, we were reviewing it and there was a new grant line for HFI patients only and it just so happens that the application window is currently open so we are applying and know that any amount will help. This is our story to present day as we continue on our journey to add to our family of 2.
